This CNY, I went to Hatyai with my family. It was a short getaway. We drove there in our BMW. It was no hassle to go through custom as we have done our homework prior to departure. We managed well.
We reached the border at around 4am and had a light breakfast before we proceeded to do our insurance. As the custom opens at 6am, we had to wait in our car in the queue. It took us about an hour at the custom before we drove another 45mins to get into Hatyai town. It was about 8am when we reached and we headed straight for our first destination, Lucky Dim Sum. With GPS, we made our way easily. Dim sum was ordinary, nothing to shout about but it was fun after all. Then we made our way to the market where we bought some cashew nuts and almond for Susan. While waiting for check in at 2pm, we went to Sittara Spa next door and had a session of Sittara Massage Package for 2 hours @ RM220 per person. Sauna and steam were ordinary but the bubble bath was great and relaxing. The spa jet was strong enought to make my body itched and it was comfortable. I had the whole spa bathroom by myself at that non peak hour. The oil massage was pampering too until I dozed off. Overall it was a great spa though a bit costly. The kids waited for us with their gadgets but poor JS dozed off. It was a tiring car trip and finally we checked into De Poem Boutique. It was huge with a living space and a bedroom with a double bed and 2 singles. Our say was good and location wise, we had no problem getting into town within 5 mins.
Towards the evening, we went to the nearby Beef and Beef Restaurant and had Thai food for dinner. Food was just of average. Then we went to town and had some pak kor dessert before walking around in the busy night market.
Next day, we looked around for the famous chicken rice and bak kut teh. It was good. Then, we started our shopping spree. Went to Central and Robinson. Bought some bras, nighties, t-shirts for the kids, souvenirs, zebra kettle, etc. We had dinner at MK steamboat that is quite similar to Coca, not bad!
On the final day, we had our last meal at Kan Eng Restaurant, a popular Thai eatery. It was good. Then, we made our last stop at Tesco Lotus to get some cheap stuff before headed to the custom. Gosh! A terrible jam welcome us and we were stuck for almost 2 hours. By the time we left custom, it was already late and we reached Ipoh at 11pm. We had chicken rice for supper before roaming around for a budget hotel to put a night. We decided to stay a night so that we can enjoy the delicious Ming Court dim sum early the next day. So we found a newly opened hotel that was doing a CNY promotion. We checked into Downtown Hotel for an executive room with a sofa and an extra bed, just nice and it's for a mere $180.
Very early morning at 7am, TH woke all of us up to have dim sum. He worried if we were late, we may not get a table. Haiz,we were all so sleepy and didnt really enjoy the food. We just dont have the appetite so early in the morning. We walked back to the hotel and rested for a while before we bid farewell.
