Japan Tsunami 2011
I am writing this on 16.3.11. In fact I am still in a daze over what happened to Japan. At 2:46pm on a normal afternoon on 11.3.11, a strong earthquake of a 9.0-magnitude struck at the ocean floor near Japan and within the next 30 minutes, a huge tsunami of 10m high waves swept the coast of East Japan. The entire villages and towns were flattened and swallowed by the sea. Tens of thousand people were missing. I have been following the news on CNN, BBC and NHK up to this day and it is so terrifying. Life suddenly become extremely fragile and the wrath of nature is simply unbelievable. The catastrophe got worsen and it has since then turned into an atomic crisis where radioactive substances leaks from Fukushima Nuclear Plant. The disaster knocked down the cooling system in the plant, hence causing tremendous heat inside which subsequently resulted in a meltdown of the nuclear rods. Radioactive substances poses serious health problem to human, it can lead to cancers. It has now becomes an environmental crisis. Today is 18.3.11 and I am continuing penning this exactly a week since the day that stunned the world. There is a belief that the earth is in danger when the almighty moon moves closest to the earth tomorrow. Till now, Japan is still experiencing many aftershocks in that area and many survivors are struggling to live on with limited food, water, electricity, fuel and etc. and the winter has just begin. Heard stories that the Japanese are being punished for their sins during war over a decade ago. I really think it need not be that harsh. In fact, the Japanese gain my high respect and I salute them for the way they handle this disaster. The pictures on TV showed how discipline and strong spirit they are. There are basically no lootings, no fighting and everything seemed to be in ordely. They hold strong belief and faith in their government and they behave like a world class citizen.
