JS Bad Accident @ 13.3.2011

My boy was so unlucky on Sunday 13.3.11. He invited his friend Roy to join his for a football session at FRIM that evening when TH went for his routine walk. TH dropped him at the football court where he joined a group of Malay boys for a game. When TH picked him up, he saw JS tried hitting a ball out as he was the goalkeeper but was instead had his right hand injured by that ball. It hurt so much that his face immediately turned pale and TH decided to take him to the traditional doctor but couldnt find any as it was Sunday. Then, I suggested to him to try the Poh Chi Lam in Selayang. He was treated with herbs and was bandaged. Little did we know that it was far more serious than that. We made a terrible mistake of not getting an Xray scan and soon, exactly 10 ten days later on Tuesday, 22.3.11, an Xray scan confirmed that the wrist was badly fractured and dislocated. That day itself, a surgery was done at Gleneagles by surgeon Dr. Chan Kin Yuen at about 8pm and it was a success. A wire was inserted to help support the joint. Dr. Chan explained that due to the 10 days delay, there will be added risk of not getting it fixed well. We felt bad and we learnt our lesson. An xray scan is very important in event of any accident. JS was admitted for a night and he was a tough boy. I was as worried as him and it hurt when I saw the fear in him. TH, JW and myself were with him throughout the operation. We had coffee at Dome while waiting for him. The operation lasted an hour. His wrist was casted and luckily he felt no serious pain. He was discharged the next day with his casted wrist. He rested at home for another five days before resume school on Monday. He started to use his left hand to write and not bad, his writing is good. Now that it has been 3 weeks already, tomorrow is the appointment with doctor to remove the cast and the wire. He was a bit worried about the removing of the wire inside but I assure him that it will be alright. Actually, there are 2 matters of concern. Firstly, his wrist has been injured further by Poh Chi Lam with their herbs that caused serious blisters and infection on the skin. Due to the urgency of surgery, Dr. Chan had to proceed with the surgery on the skin that was filled with blisters and was put in a cast until now. Tomorrow we shall know if the blisters on the skin are gone and the internal joint is in good shape. Secondly, Dr. Chan explained that the fracture was at the wrist joint where there is a delicate growing tissue wrapped around it and the fracture may cause complication in the far future. I hope everything will be alright for him in the future and that the complication will be zero or of the least impact. Hmm.. I had mixed feelings when he still wants to play football and be a goalkeeper. Yes, football is his passion and an accident should not deter him from pursuing his passion but considering his wrist weakened and the possibility of a future complication worries me. I guess I can only pray that he will take good care. He definitely has every rights not to give up the game. GOD bless my son, pls....
