Trip to Thailand (25-30 August 2011)

Made a trip to Haadyai and Phuket with parent in law, Susan, Ti, Ping and J.Yuen. Ten of us took bus from Puduraya at 10pm and reached Haadyai about 7am the next day. It was a long journey by bus but this $60 per ticket bus ride is comfortable and well equipped with luxurious seat with tv and radio facilities too. Therefore, the trip is bearable and quite occupying. After completing two movies and few naps, we almost reached our destination.

Father in law (F) was our tour guide and he did a good job. In fact, he paid for the trip. When we reached, we checked into Novotel and within the next 30mins, we headed out for our brunch. We had delicious promphet fish and kampung chicken. It is one of (F) favourite eateries. Then, he brought us to foot massage parlour $30 per hour and JS had his first try there. Was little worried if he's ready for it but anyhow, we asked that the massage be done gently. Glad he enjoyed it. After that, the kids stayed in the hotel room while we headed out in the street again, to the market this time. (F) took us to the nearby market where we bought cashew nuts, pistachios and cuttlefish. Bought a kilo each of cashew nuts for JL and CC as instructed by dad before, always remember to bring something back for your family during trips. The kids were so tired that they slept in the room for almost half a day till we woke them up for dinner.

Next day, we were off to Phuket by bus, it took us about 6hrs and we reached Tony Resort. It was a pleasant stay but unluckily, it was rainy season and we were caught in the rain most of the times in Phuket. We actually saw no sun at all throughout our stay. We bought a tour that includes Fantasia and Phi Phi Island. Fantasia show is good but not amazing. Phi Phi Island trip is like a trip to hell. It was a terrifying trip and we felt like we were on a roller coaster ride for 2 HOURS non stop!!! The strong waves in the ocean bashed our boat so violently as if it was so determine to bring us down. TH and the kids felt sick. TH even vomitted. At one point, I felt so hopeless and fragile. I really thought that could be our last moment. It also brought back memories of the Durian Typhoon in Vietnam with dad and mom. Hmm, what a memorable trip!

Overall, the trip with my parents in law is good, they are getting old and in no time, we may never make trips with them again. So while they are still fit to travel, I say, I will go holiday with them as much as possible, with no regrets. Had talks with Susan and sad to know that she is so subjected to stress from mom in law (M). (M) is indeed a difficult old lady and she can be quite unpleasant at times. Since I cannot help much, I just hope they will manage.

As for (F), he is a kind and generous old man. He could be silly and stubborn at times but he is indeed a good and wise man. He is likable and has many friends. (M) doesnt seem to see his strengths and always criticize him for being too generous and kind to others. (M) is a jealous wife.

As for Ti and his family, I was kind of impressed by them. They are modest and had no problem at all with J.Yuan. They were very patient with him. The first thing they did when we went into shopping mall was to head to the toy department and got toys for J.Yuan. That made me wonder for a while, how come I had my kids seated at the corner with their ipad and ipod and waited for us to shop. Or did I bring them to toy department when they were young. I forgot!

J.Yuan reminds me a lot of my young JS. They were both so cute and adorable.....
