Bersih 4 on 29-30 August 2015

This is already the fourth Bersih and hopefully the last in our beloved country, Malaysia.  Though I did not have the courage to come out on the previous ones, I can gladly say I made it this time around. After a week of sleepless nights I came out and I brought my family too.  I overcame the fear and anxiety in me because my conscience tells me that I have to be there.  I just cannot sit at home and watch the rest of my fellow Malaysian walk in the hot scorching sun doing their very least that they can do for the country. I know it is only right that I got to be out there with them.  I know best that my country is capable of doing well with the blessings of abundant natural resources but I see no future with the present state of our administration. Something is just not right. Yes, all abiding Malaysians should adhere to the laws of the country that is to patiently wait for the next election to make changes. That is why Bersih 4 is not about toppling the Government of the day, rather it is out of desperation and anger, Malaysian has to go down to the street to make our voice heard. We ask nothing more than a clean election, an accountable leader and the urgency to strengthen the economy. If we do not save our country, we may go bust very soon and be the next Greece.

On the eve of Merdeka, my family and I parked our car nearby Sogo and joined the rest of the Bersih supporters and made our way to Dataran Merdeka.  That day was eye opening and simply amazing.  The moment when I saw the crowd, my fears disappeared in thin air. In fact, we enjoyed the walk in the crowd.  Everyone is so cooperative and friendly because we all came for one common goal.  I have never before felt the awesomeness in the atmosphere, with the vuvuzela in my hand, blowing in support, cheering the crowd as we walk, chanting Bersih!  We enjoyed the creative posters and banners put up in the event and the kids got hold of them and we took pictures. We went over to Petaling Street for the popular Air Mata Kuching drink to rehydrate as we walked. We even had a 20mins brief stop at a store in Central Market to get a memorable family sketch done at RM100. It was nicely drawn though slightly expensive.  Above all, we added up to the number on that day. I am blessed with a supportive family who walked on that day with me.  My family and I did our part. It was truly a walk of a lifetime.  To Malaysia, get well soon!
